There's been several recommendations to look for another job, but
frankly, I don't see a necessity for that. There will always be people
at the top of the heap who want to play outside the sandbox. In a lot of
cases, it's how they got to the top of the heap and how they made the
business successful.
As an IT guy, I try to remember that it is indeed their business. They
can do with it what they like. If they go against my recommendations and
company policies and something blows up, it's not my fault, it's theirs.
My experience has been that their level-peers don't really care. Just
get them back up and running so they can do their jobs.

Now, if there is a compliance issue involved, then it's a different
story. But that's a matter for management and HR to hash out. Document
well as you mentioned and move on. These types of folks either play
closely enough to the rules that it's not much of a problem or they blow
something up badly and either see the light or someone else at their
level reads them the riot act.

It's going to be the same anywhere else, so you just live with it and
spend your energy on things that really matter.

To be honest, I have tried to find something in my field that pays what
I am making now with no success in the Charlotte market and I can't take
a pay cut at this moment in time.

Guess I'll just keep documentation up to date and save all
communications about the matter off site.
