I'm listening, but not quite convinced.

Cost is more than just software/licensing cost. It's man-hours to make it
work, it's downtime for users. Remember that the goal is not to manage
software installations, only to report. If reporting + management can be
done for the same *total cost* including manpower, only then do we have a
reason to investigate SCE.

The competing solution that hits the goal on the nose goes for $30/seat and
probably needs less than 8 man-hours to install, learn, test, and put into
production.

So if "hard to beat on price" is even in the $30/seat ballpark, how many
man-hours to convert 500 clients to SCE management, if only for the software
that isn't updated by WSUS. Clients are spread among 4 sites, 2 of which
have no dedicated I.T. staff.

Depending on the size of the environment you are dealing with, SCE is hard
to beat on price. Plus it gives you the ability to uninstall packages
installed via msi on top of the reports showing success/failure info for all
installed software, whether from msi or exe.

Seriously.

I'd look at ConfigMgr 2007 anyway -- or even SCE. Probably the lowest
priced solutions out there.

Really? I talked with Secunia as well and the pricing I got was 4 times
more than the full blown Shavlik Patch product - and NSI doesn't have
deployment capabilities.
