Are you using spectralinks yet? We've had them here for 3-4 years now. You'd be surprised how little coverage you need to make them work. We aren't a hospital environment but I know of a large hospital near me that use them quite extensively. You can get a phone and put it in test mode and start riding elevators, it will real time show you the AP's it can associate with and the DB loss without being able to see the SVP server.
