Not really.  Nothing new or exciting.

For small shops many often get by with a contract to a services
provider (x hours per week/month or Bob the guy with a computer at
home).  For larger shops they often cycle between the outsource
nightmare and in sourcing it, depending on senior management
infighting and the latest magazine trend article written up.  The mid
sized ones balance and trade off.

The largest negative of outsourcing is losing control of your data.
You can mitigate it with contracts, over site, management but
ultimately you have non-employees controlling vast amounts of access
and responsibility for your data.  The reverse of employee IT is you
have to be able to hire and retain competent people and manage the
right level of support contracts for your needs/risks.

It's all in your managements risk/reward choices.
