Well now you have two different interfaces to manage quite different hardware. You have drives that are not compatible with the other SAN, if you need to swap for any reason. Then you have a totally separate software that has to accomplish replication. I am sure there are other considerations also. I am not advocating any one solution, I do like Equallogic and we are planning on installing it here in the near future. I also do like the replication and we are purchasing a second unit in a year or so to do replication, but it will be a smaller unit as we do not need to replicate everything. That is another option you can look at if you want. I do not have any personal experience with the storevault or the AX series so I could not comment on their reliability, or ease of use.

My question I guess is, is built-in replication software the only major reason to sticking with same brand SAN? -----Original Message----- From: Terry Dickson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, June 18, 2008 10:47 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: 2 Different brand SAN for Primary Data Center and DR Site That could be a loaded question. First with the Equalogic you could set up the SAN replication and depending on your DR needs 95% of your job is done. And I have seen this done on 4-5 separate occasions and it takes 15 minutes to setup. Then once replication is done you are good to go and it requires a pretty small pipe to keep replicated. Of course that depends on how much data you need replicated. -----Original Message----- From: Phil Guevara [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, June 18, 2008 12:41 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: 2 Different brand SAN for Primary Data Center and DR Site We are using an Equalogic PS5000 for our primary data center. We are looking to make a DR site, is it a bad idea to use a less expensive brand a model, for example something like the DELL AX4 or AX150 or a Storevault S500?
