No - this is not a bug with backup. This is a problem when you manually copy your PST (or any of the other affected file types) to shared folder on the WHS, and then you open that file, across the network, from a client machine.
The data corruption bug in WHS was not with the backup process. But when you put files onto the SMB shares, and then opened the files from your client machines across the network.
