I recreated the problem using a Verizon broadband connection on my laptop and creating the VPN connection. I RDP'd to the Terminal Server and started surfing the web and after 10-15 minutes the Remote Desktop connection froze and then dropped. The VPN connection remained up as I was able to ping other Servers, all except the one I was knocked out of. It took about 5 minutes before I could ping the TS again at which point I could reconnect. So yes, it appears the VPN connection remains up, but I'm getting so many stories from my users I can't be sure that that is always the case.
