Thats actually a really good question, and I dont know the answer. I presumed that the Promise board was pretty much equivalent to the on-board RAID 0 and 1 controllers you get from Dell and HP for about a hundred bucks. I figured it had to be better than doing Windows software RAID on dynamic disks. Maybe it isnt.

Possibly I can suggest a config that I know works from experience that fits your budget as I built my own rigs as well. jlc From: Michael B. I dont remember) posted a site that had really excellent prices on white-box servers. (I need something inexpensive for home that I can use as a Hyper-V server.) Anyone remember what that site was? (And, BTW, its a real failing for me I dont really do hardware. So, designing a server from the motherboard up isnt a skill I have. Webster helped me a lot yesterday, but when I gave him all of my requirements, it was more than I wanted to spend ) Thanks! Regards, Michael B.
