Yep, that is the life of being the new admin. I don't know of a better way.

Yes, I thought about that.
I just removed the entry for that address.  I've got bigger fish to fry, and I 
have some time scheduled in November to clena up our address scheme, I can 
tackle it there.

Why on earth our previous netadmin would have WINS enabled on our network with 
no 9x clients, I haven't the foggiest idea.
