The RAID management software correctly reports the size of the new drives
added under Direct Attached Devices, however the Logical Devices shows the
smaller size of the old drives. At this point I should be able to select
this array, and from the Actions menu choose expand. This simply isn’t in
the menu however. Diskpart says the volume can’t be expanded, which I
expected as a result. Oh well. I will just image the drive and redo the RAID
this weekend.

Your logical disc may not have any more space? Unless you told the raid card
to expand it, in other words there is simply free space that only your raid
card see's.

You can easily grow a partition online once you solve that with diskpart
(Check if you can grow the system partition online, otherwise boot to a PE
disc you can download free from ms).

Oggetto: Expand volume on adaptec hostraid

I had a single disk failure in a RAID 1 and replaced the 250G drive with a
500G drive. Once that rebuilt I replaced the other 250G drive with a second
500G drive and it rebuilt again. Now, I would like to grow the partition,
but I have no “Expand Volume” in the Adaptec Storage Manager software. It
recognizes the size of the disk in the details, but no actions are available
to make changes. Is this just my junky hostraid controller that is the
limiting factor here or am I missing something? I have the latest Adaptec
ASM software.
