I have a few customers using the earlier version (blue color) and that one only supported SATA 1 and 10/100. It serves their needs and has worked well for them. I believe this model hasn't changed those specs.
I have seen a couple of reviews that have given the Synology products good ratings. www.synology.com I'm thinking of getting one of their units and evaluate it for my clients.
