The lifespan of any firewall depends entirely on 2 things:

a) That it provides the reliability, features, and performance you need
b) The firewall manufacturer supports the device.

I say keep it as long as Watchguard is willing to support it in terms of
software updates and warranty service.

If you are really concerned about downtime while a replacement comes,
hopefully Watchguard offers advanced replacement service. As a last
resort you could always buy an X500 off the used market to keep as a
cold spare.
