Sunbelt Exchange Archiver, perhaps? It's on my short list to take a
hard look at later in the year.

Subject: Exchange, outlook and auto archiving

Chaps,

I'm after a solution for an auto-archiving-phobic company that would
allow me to reduce their massive mailbox sizes (average around 3GB, up
to around 6GB or so), while still giving them one place to look for
emails.

The problem is that they don't want to auto-archive because they don't
want the emails taken out of the organisation (ie dumping them to a pst
file). The user doesn't want to have another mailbox entry in Outlook to
search through when he's looking for email; he doesn't really want to
have to think when looking for an email.

I don't blame them really, I can't stand auto-archiving in Outlook, it's
a horrid hack for a real issue. What they really should have done is to
separate the archiving process from the interface, and show the user
both the 'live' emails and the 'archived' emails in one set of folders
(inbox, sent etc) and just have the archived ones as appearing light
grey or something. That would give the benefits of archiving, but give
the user one interface and one place to look at.

So, what I'm looking for is some kind of workable 3rd party solution to
allow me to archive emails from users mailboxes, while still giving them
an easy method to search for mail (would have to work for
Outlook-Anywhere clients as they are all 'transient' users). The server
is Exchange 2007 and the clients are all Outlook 2007.

Any suggestions ?

Olly
