I got an error that adprep /forestprep failed on ms-PKI-DPAPIMasterKeys
in sch34.ldf line 123

After some research I found kb917682 (as well as others) and I changed
linkID from 2046 to 12046

Reran adprep /forestprep and I was successful. I continued with adprep
/domainprep and /domainprep /gpprep.

All were successful. Now I am wondering, did I do the right thing or
did I mess something up?

What exactly is the linkID?

This is in a test virtual environment. (I DR'd one Domain Controller
from a backup into Hyper-V with an internal only lan and added a w2k8
server. I am using another virtual server for a router. Gotta love
Hyper-v)

TIA
