It's an essential tool (Installer Cleanup), but... 1. As mentioned, it can't be installed while rogue MSIEXEC processes are running
2. It's not real clear what is trying to be installed by the rogue MSIEXEC process Using the Task Manager to kill the MSIEXEC processes (I've seen 2-4 at one time) may or may not keep the process away long enough to install the cleanup tool. (The rogue processes keep popping back up.) Sometimes after killing the rogue MSI, I can look in the application event log and find MSIEXEC-related messages which say what failed to be installed/updated/whatevered. Oh yeah, if an admin is around, open a command console, then use the runas command to open another command console as the administrator (runas /user:[admin] cmd ), then run "taskmgr.exe" from the console. -------------------------------------- Richard McClary, Systems Administrator ASPCA Knowledge Management 1717 S Philo Rd, Ste 36, Urbana, IL 61802 217-337-9761 http://www.aspca.org Miller Bonnie L. <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote on 11/14/2008 09:52:15 AM: > Maybe try the MS Windows Installer Cleanup Utility? > > http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 > > -Bonnie > > From: Benjamin Zachary - Lists [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Thursday, November 13, 2008 9:04 PM > To: NT System Admin Issues > Subject: 2003 TS msiexec keeps running > > I have a 2003 TS that’s managed by a junior admin, he tried > installing some software and now it looks like hp keeps running some > msiexec install for every user @ login, it fails in the event log. > Its not listed in add/remove and nothing can be > installed/uninstalled because I get a message that an install is in > process and I have to complete it first. > > Im thinking I will make everyone an admin just to get around > whatever it is and then try to uninstall, or maybe rip something out > of the registry.
