It is a good way to make connections by leverageing the relationships
you have with people you already know--kind of like 6 degrees of
separation from Kevin Bacon. :) Also, there is some statistic on the
site like 'a certain percentage of all Harvard graduates have at least
(not on average) 50 or so connections'. Knowing people that like you
and
want you to work on their stuff because they trust you is how the
world
works--good economy or bad.
