I think GFI LanGuard is a great product and have used it for years;
since v3. It will scan for vulnerabilities, open ports, password
strength and such. It's easy to configure. It's one of the tools I take
to a new client to get "a lay of the land", so to speak. Wouldn't leave
home without it. I carry it around on a flash drive along with
SysInternal tools and a few others.

Cheers.

are you scanning for certification ( like for PCI ) ? Not sure your
budget overall, but I seem to remember SPI Dynamics had a VERY
comprehensive scanner. Not sure that the GFI scanner would include all
vulnerabilities needed for certifications

Does anybody have any experience using GFI's Languard for vulnerability
scanning? I'm looking for something to scan my computers for known
vulnerabilities to common applications. Currently I am using a Security
Company's scanner and it is convenient, and easy to report on, but it is
quite expensive and I'd like to know what I'd get for the $690 to GFI as
compared to ten times that to the company that does our Pen Tests. Does
GFI work? Is it easy? Accurate? Anyone have any real-world
experiences?
