Hi Mark
I think it depends on which version of HyperV you are talking about.  The
way I've implemented is run a host instance of Windows 2K8, installed the
HyperV role, and installed the VMs.  The host has no other roles but HV. My
VM's include W2K3 as well as 2K8.  You can also add linux or any other
flavour of Windows from what I understand. If you just run HyperV Windows
version of 2k8  then you are running windows core as the parent or host.
This is how Microsoft explained it to us at the recent TechDays.
