I must have been living in a bubble of joy or something as I have yet to find a program that any of our clients use that does not work under vista with anything but a minor tweak. So today I find myself firing up a W3.11 VPC instance for a piece of software which they stopped producing in 1991 and that a new client uses every week. And when I try it under Vista it came up with a license key issue - now to track down the decedents of the developers.
So my machine has Windows 7 in a virtual machine and Windows 3.11 in a virtual machine both running on it!!! Did Vista break your applications, or were your applications already broken and Vista merely revealed their problems? If Microsoft can release software in 2003 - LONG before security features in Vista were even conceived of - that works correctly under Vista... >From what I've seen, most of the software compatibility issues are caused by *&$(#) moron software developers doing things they shouldn't.
