How do you handle the mailbox backup during the last 30 days? I've
found that BackupExec throws an error/failed backup report if it tries
to back up a "marked for deletion" mailbox.

We do 90 days and then it gets aged out of Exchange after 30 more days.

Disable user, drop in /former OU.
After 90 days, delete home directory, terminal services directory, user
object
Mailbox ages out after an additional 30 days.

If 'someone' cannot have figured out that some sort of investigation
needed to happen with that specific user in that time period, then to
bad for them. Well, really us as we have to restore from tape but
frankly that just doesn't happen often enough and the space savings
from files deleted and elimination of accounts in AD / Exchange is
more then worth it.
