I have narrowed it down to an issue with SQL Express on the two affected VMs.
However, still can't find the solution. I think I will try to upgrade the SQL
on them if the applications will let me.

Subject: DPM 2007 / "Replica is inconsistent"

I am trying to backup a Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 and the VMs on it with
DPM.

The DPM agent is installed on the server and the target VMs. The VSS update
rollup is applied to the DPM server, the VM server and the VMs.

When protection is configured for the MSVS server, the result is always
"replica is inconsistent". A consistency check results in the same. Event
viewer shows a DMP-EM Event ID 1: DPM encountered a retryable VSS error.

I am able to perform a manual snapshot on the MSVS server with "vssadmin create
shadow"

So far my Googlefu isn't helping me.

Input from the list is appreciated.

Bob
