I'd give serious consideration to an eSATA array from
www.pc-pitstop.com.  

 

You can customize your configuration and capacity, and the performance
is much better than any USB drive system.  If you call them they'll
assist you with recommendations based on your needs and requirements.  

 

 Unfortunately, our budget didn't allow for even this very affordable
