I think the intent of "check that off" was "put a check in that box".
Simple file sharing must be enabled to give you the "make this folder
private" feature.

But that privacy feature doesn't cause a password prompt for the drive or
folder.  it simply blocks access for those who are not yourself.

Goto View>Folder Options, second tab, last option is Use Simple File
Sharing. Check that off.

Looking for simple way to password protect NTFS drive or folder on Windows
XP Pro. Used to be able to do this:

Select the folder you wish to encrypt.
Right-click the folder and click Properties.
Click the Sharing tab.
Check the box Make this folder private
Click Apply and then Ok.

Not sure if this was for Windows XP Home only but do not see it in Windows
XP Pro. Do I have to use something like:


AxCrypt
WinCry
Folder Guard
