Watch out for Avemar. It is host-based and will slow things down unless you account for the extra processing firepower you will need-especiallly in virtual environments. It works, but just be aware that your servers will be doing all that work.
HP has options in their Storageworks lineup with NAS and SAN devices with de-dupe built-in, so the work is done at the target-not on the server. The prize however goes to Exagrid Systems. They are the unequivocal kings of de-dupe. Check them out. ________________________________ From: Brumbaugh, Luke [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, February 05, 2009 6:20 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Cc: Miller, Bob Subject: EMCs Data DeDupe Has anyone implemented any data de-duplication backup solutions? If so what are your opinions. We are currently looking at EMC and the Avamar (source dedupe) and DL3D (Target dedupe) solutions. After all the smoke and mirrors, I don't want to be in the same situation and fighting to get backups done and non-failing. Also in plan is a DR plan, which is currently offsite tape storage. As I am in the discovery phase I am open to other vendors. TIA Luke L.
