Hi all,

Anyone have any recommendations for compact managed switches?
Something in the 5 to 10 port range. Ideally, PoE as an option would
be nice. 10/100 is all we need for the station ports; it would be
nice if the uplink was gig.

Management features I'm interested in include: Port status, port
enable/disable, VLANs, VLAN prioritization, SNMP queryable for
performance monitoring. I'm a CLI guy, so management with SSH would
be nice, but I suppose I can live with a web GUI if I have to.

I've got the typical situation where management planned poorly and
we now have a few locations where we have N network jacks and N+X
network nodes to plug in (X varies from 1 to 4). We've got SOHO
unmanaged mini-switches in these places, but I've never liked doing
that. Most of these don't *need* PoE, although it won't hurt if they
have it.

I've also got a new outlying building I need to bring up. It's only
going to need three or four network jacks, so I'm somewhat reluctant
to spend the money on a full-size 24-port PoE switch. However, it's
also a longer distance than I can do without a switch, so I need
something.

I've found various prospects[1], but I'd like to hear from actual experience.
