Just my .02 from my own experience - my client has 3 sites plus mine. I use the Checkpoint Sofaware boxes - they were about $300 each back then. Probably around $500 now plus some software costs and annual support about $100 I think. They do VPN tunnels and VPN client - I run these to create the network through site to site vpn for this client and we've used it about 5 years now I think. We have AD /File servers in each site and use this to keep everything in sync including their email from a single exchange server in their hq. We've had some issues but overall they stay up, stay connected. I think the usual reboots are due to the inexpensive Internet Providers we use and no SLAs for service. The boxes do sometimes act picky - i see this at my site but I have consumer Comcast as a provider so I blame them for my poor response and disconnects. Their interface seems easy to use -
But again I've only used these for business, so I don't have experience with any other vendor product for small business. Linksys and D-link for other personal jobs I've set up, none of which have used VPNs.
