Did you try a complete power-off - including pulling the power cord out
- and letting it sit for a minute or 2?

Even if the machine is turned off - but plugged into wall power -
certain components are still energized, among them the PS/2 and USB
ports - that's how power buttons on keyboards are able to work. The
machine isn't truly *off* until you remove the power source.

I've seen similar things happen with USB ports - for some reason the
machine wouldn't detect any connect USB devices. Neither a Warm reboot
nor a "cold" reboot made a difference.

Turning it off and pulling the power cord solved the issue. Or at least
until it decides to act up again ;)
