    There may be some reasons you wish to defragment the NTDS.DIT file,
    but none of them should be for speed. Defragging the NTDS.DIT file
    probably won't help your AD queries go any faster in the long run. One
    reason you might want to defrag your NTDS.DIT file is to save space.
    Remember, normally the currently used space is earmarked for recycling
    for additional records, not reclaimed or shrunk. If you deleted a huge
    number of records at one time, say, at the end of a school year to
    clear out the current class, you could defragment the directory and
    get an accurate count of how much space you're actually using.
