We swapped our old Unix boxes a long time ago when moving to Windows DNS (not AD integrated) and did it in a similar fashion as I mentioned earlier. Your logic seems fine too - I was just trying to think of the 0 impact to users scenario for trying to always have one good DNS server on that they know about. Maybe others have more feedback ...
