If I Recall correctly, when you try to connect to a C$ share on a machine and the username is greyed out, it has something to do with "Simple File sharing" (Your PC or theirs) or its Windows XP home Edition / MCE.
Its pretty obvious at this point that its not on the domain - or its foubared.
