If you don't already know: Log on to the local admin account, do Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View, and enable "Launch folder windows in a separate process". Once that's done, you can start an elevated Explorer window from an elevated command prompt. I never actually log on to the local admin account of the computer on my desk.
