We're about to push out Office and XP SP3 here as well, through wsus. Unfortunatley, they won't spend the money on a proper patch management solution so the only stuff that gets updated is whatever wsus has.
About 1300 PC's still need Office SP3, 2500 still need XP SP3, have to do it in batchs of 50 as the network guys complained too much. Can't start XP until Office is done. After that everything else will be released to a test site and then released companywide so we'll be more on top of the updates. Also have to do a CR and have it approved before it can be released again. NO issues with our BES servers after patching. Although I did run into a issue yesterday with a Win2k3 SP2 standard box in which TCPIP Netbios Helper and Windows 32time along with RPC was failing ( RDP to box try and login and claims RPC Service failed). Ended up being an old issue in which everyone group was removed from the COM+ Security settings in the component services tab. Only took 4 hrs of troubleshooting and 3 MS Engineers and myself working it out. Fun and Stressful Wednesday mornings during patch weeks. Gotta hate the trenches sometimes. Don?t mean to hijack but I did have an issue with my BES server?after installing the updates, three BES services hang at boot (giving me the Applying Computer Settings window forever). I?m still trying to figure out what is causing this but things were fine until I updated the box. I'm deploying today's crop of MS patches to my first wave test set, and I've had 3 of 'em hang during installation so for. Might be caused by (or the cause of?) my update server having network problems. Lots of other things happening on machines being patched, such as 20-30 second periods of apps "not responding" Don't notice it on machines not being patched. --V ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ ==================================================================== http://www.quinn-insurance.com This e-mail is intended only for the addressee named above.
