Hi all, * Win XP Pro SP2 * Microsoft Internet Explorer 6
We've got a user using <http://my.msn.com/> as their home page. Frequently, when loading this page, the Internet Explorer window stops responding to user input, and stops repainting the window. The IEXPLORE.EXE process sits there using no CPU, memory flat, and 16 bytes of "Other" I/O every few seconds. If we wait several minutes it usually comes back to life and then functions normal. It seems like, if we open a *second* Internet Explorer window, the second IEXPLORE.EXE process will typically *not* hang. The first one will sit there hung as described above. The problem is intermitant but sometimes happens several times in a row. It seems to be more likely to happen if auto-logon for Windows Live ID is enabled, and/or if my.msn.com is the home page, but we've seen it happen for going to the page from another page, and having to manually enter the password. We've found that disabling "Binary and Scripting Behaviors" in browser Security tab seems to make the problem go away, but that seems to make other sites stop working. Finding any information on what this setting *actually does* seems to be impossible. Microsoft just says it's used for dynamic binary behavior. (Thanks for nothing.) * Only happens in MSIE. Firefox is fine. * Tried clearing cache and cookies * Happens for multiple computers * Happens for multiple Windows user profiles * Happens for multiple Windows Live ID (Passport) accounts I thought it might be Adobe Flash, so I updated to the latest (10.0.22.87), but it still happens. Any ideas? Aside from "just switch to Firefox" -- the user is change-averse. -- Ben ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~
