AngryIPScanner is free and will give you a report of the open ports.

Microsoft Baseline Analyzer will give you both of those.

  We are looking into and evaluating a software or group of software 
applications that would allow us to come into a network and run a network scan. 
 We are looking for reporting on open ports, patches, etc.

   

  We have reviewed GFI LanGuard (http://www.gfi.com/lannetscan) but wanted to
