Ran into this in my environ. When I set it up & was able to resolve it when
specifying FQDN in the \\printserver\printername
<file:///\\printserver\printername> . FWIW DNS name for the print server is
fine & pinging the print server name DOES return FQDN. Yet we were only able to
get it working when specifying FQDN in GPPe.

No ideas - it works exactly as you described for my environment.

Subject: Using Group Policy Preferences to push printers

Hi Folks,

I'm starting to use Group Policy preferences now. I"m trying to push down
printers for some users. Under the User GPP, I set the shared printer to
"create". I refresh the policy at the desktop, reboot, nothing happens. I can
install the printer using the traditional method however.

Suggestions? Windows 2008 server, XP SP3 machines.
