In Exchange 2003 how do I verify it is pointing to the new DC.

Yeah, I think that's all you need to do. It just makes it and
Exchange aware of one another. We had to rebuild a DC recently, the
other two dc's we have hadn't had the domainprep run on them, and
Exchange quit working (even though the other two were global catalog
servers), ran the domainprep and all was happy again.

As others have said but just to sum it all up:
        1. build up your new dc
        2. move FSMO roles
        3. dcpromo old dc to demote it
        4. and wait, we typically give it at least 24 hours if not
more......

At this point, you are in no hurry, you've replaced it with the
new dc, just let it sit for a day or two before removing it from the
domain and scrapping it.

Just that one will grab the new DC name and insert it into all

DomainPrep from the Exchange 2003 cd on the new DC.

The only thing that I'd add is some time in between each
of those steps for replication etc.. (this could be depending upon how
big the OP's environment is) wasn't stated in your message, although
could be that it was implied...

If the aging server is still up, add the new server DC
promo move the appropriate roles, DC promo (demote) the old one.

Exchange is smart enough to now of the change.

                Am I missing something?

Perhaps this might help in determining what is where:

I have 3 DC's in my Domain. I am at the life's end of
one of them. I am building a server to replace it.

I need to know how to determine what roles this server
has so I can be sure to get them on the new server.

What is the best practice to replace a DC and to migrate
the roles???
