I can't speak for the OP, but the "labels" paradigm that Gmail uses can confuse, or cause suboptimal behavior, in many IMAP clients. Clients tend to assume a message can exist in only one IMAP folder. Or they try to enumerate the contents of "All Mail" and explode. This is arguably as much a client "problem" as Gmail's, but it's good to be aware of. Google documents this, more-or-less, in their "Help". I guess there's actually a "labels" feature in newer IMAP specs, but practically nothing implements it (including Gmail). IMAP has always been the problem child of the Internet mail protocol suite.
