Thanks to all who responded. I actually did it both ways with netdom and 
ndtsutil just to see with both.

One question,  I ran the netdom command against each of the DC's with the 
/server option but without the /Domain switch.  netdom query /server:contosodc1 
fsmo

Is it required to get the correct response

I needed to change the FSMO roles from 1 DC to another. I have 4 DC's in the 
environment. Is there any way to verify that the FSMO changes have replicated 
to all DC's
