Very good ! This was the solution. Netbiosname of the domain was shorter than the full name (14 chars instead of 16)

Guido, are you sure you that the NETBIOS name of the domain is correct when you type domain\userlogonname? If the NETBIOS name is wrong this would explain the behavior that I *think* you're seeing. To check the domain's NETBIOS name open the "Active Directory Domains and Trusts" snap-in, right click on the domain, then choose properties. What you're looking for is listed as "Domain name (pre-Windows 2000)". Of course, this is Vista we're talking about and isn't the NETBIOS name basically pre-populated for you where it says "Logon to: whatever"?
