I've been using LinkedIn since 2005 (properly, since 2006).

It is well worth it, IMO. It's a professional networking site that
facilitates interaction for business.

I would highly recommend that technologists, in particular, take advantage
of this medium, because the world still operates on the principle of who you
know and who knows you. It's just that the barrier to entry has been
lowered considerably. Too many people wait until they need a job before
they go looking for resources such as LinkedIn, and it's too late at that
point. You need to cultivate your network well in advance.

I have successfully used LinkedIn to find out about new business
opportunities, get invitations to present at places like Network World, get
opportunities to be quoted for magazines, and find out about new job
opportunities. I've also hired people on the basis of LinkedIn, and gotten
good feedback about products that I was interested in obtaining. And that's
beyond being able to connect with former colleagues, which most people
settle for.

It's well worth your time, so I would recommend that you join. Feel free to
send me an invite.
