I'll chime in with my worthless 2 cents. I'm in the same boat as Brian. I have my 2003 MCSE cert, and I just took 70-649 which gave me (3) MCTS certs. I now need 70-646 for MCITP Server Administrator and then 2 more for MCIPT Enterprise Administrator. Most likely 70-620 and 70-647.
I'm happy with the path I've chosen, given my current job. Down the road I may choose to add VMWare and some GIAC security certifications. If I was doing less specialized work and had a broader range of responsibilities I'd also probably add Cisco certification in there. As Richard points out, if you complete the MCSE 2003, then upgrade to the MCITP Server Admin, you will need to take a total of four exams (2 for MCSE, plus the upgrade of MCSE to MCTS, then the MCITP exam). Having said all this, I am one who went the MCSA 2003 -> MCSE 2003 route, and have the MCSE 2003 -> MCTS/MCITP path in front of me, and would do it again... I'm a long time lurker here; but have tried to help people out in the past. I trust the people here. I am currently MCSA (2003) as of last year. I only have 2 more tests for MCSE (2003) and one more test after that if i want the +Security. ( i already took one security test and passed ). I also have CCNA that i passed back in 2006. (expired now grrr ) I am currently employed getting close to 11 years. Getting more certifications isn't necessarily going to give me a pay raise but may help me out in the years to come. Should i go ahead and finish up MCSE-Security or should i start with the new MS Certification? MCITP is most likely what i'll end up doing. what do you guys think?
