I agree with Ken, Dell only recommend all SAS or all SATA and no mixing. I have a T300 with SAS drives ( all with hotswap backplane ) and was about to attempt a swapout of SAS to be replaced with larger capacity 1TB SATA drives. I was told several versions of the same thing - SAS and SATA interfaces are both compatible with the DELL SAS controller BUT you cannot mix the drive types regardless... its one or the other, mixing is not supported by DELL yet I know that you can do it in HP servers, but then they would not be running the DELL SAS controller card. I have decided to wait for a week or so to get a full complement of SATA Drives and then do an Acronis baremetal image restore to SATA drives just to test recovery to SATA drives without risking any data loss due to drive failure.
