Gotcha.

I admittedly haven't played with HyperV much... but if you can, it may be
advantageous to set the NICs you plan on using for HV up such that the base
Win2K8 OS isn't bound to them.

Then when you team a pair of NIC's for the base OS, you have a single logical
NIC (and thus) that than Win2K8 binds to in order provide all your services
(AD, DHCP, etc...), and you this avoid the dupe name issue.

If there's no way to "devote" a NIC strictly to use by a given VM, then, I'd
suggesting not giving those additional NICs valid IP's on your LAN in Win2K8
(and instead use bogus private IP's and/or unbind everything from them), and
only assign valid IP's within the VM's bound to them.

IOW: Try not to have multiple live NIC's on the same subnet within a single OS
unless you need them for specific things like multiple web sites, etc... where
you can then unbind the additional unnecessary services...

I'm going to be setting up Teaming on the DC's NIC's.

I'm new to Virtualization with physical NIC's for the VM's, so I'm learning.

May I ask why you have multiple NICS on the same subnet in that fashion? Why
not aggregated or failover, etc...?

Or if they are for the VM's, give them dummy IP addresses and unbind the
NetBIOS/MSClient stuff from them so the Win2K8 host stays away from them for
real traffic?

Yes - they're the AD/DHCP/WINS servers.

Ah ha! Thank you, sir...I'll remove NetBIOS from the additional NICs.

Am I correct that each "DC" is the instance of Win2K8 running AD/DHCP?

It appears they have multiple NICs on the same subnet with differing IP's and
have NetBIOS enabled?

Subject: NetBT errors...

Pair of HP ProLiant DL380G6 servers with dual Quad Xeon Nehalem processors &
32GB of RAM.

These servers host my VMs and are my DC's as well as 50/50 split DHCP servers
(65 workstations). I'm getting a ton of NetBT errors - ID 4319. Only thing
is, I can't find an IP address in conflict. I have two physical adapters for
each VM (under Hyper-V) as I have the VMs clustered. The VM's physical
adapters get their IP's from DHCP, and the virtual adapters within the VMs have
static IP's. Let me know if you need any further info...

Thanks for your help!
