Does your organization have a mandated programming language? (i.e. C#
vs. VB.NET vs. PHP) I'd say you'd definitely want someone who fits into
that mold. That said, I'm assuming that since you're leaning towards
SQL, you're probably also going to be using something like ASP.NET to
interact with that data. You'll probably want someone who is well versed
in ASP.NET (either C# or VB.NET), SQL, building reporting functions, and
generally anything else you want stuff to do.

My salary is $45k (I have 3 years of experience programming C# and SQL),
but I also manage our AD/Exchange environment and occasionally help out
with some of the network stuff on rare occasion.

Someone else mentioned LinkedIn, that's always a good option. I might
also suggest throwing something up on Craigslist depending on how active
the user base is in the Lexington area - I know I always check the Indy
boards every week or two to see what's out there.

Hope this helps.

Subject: OT: Need a developer / Need info

Hi all,

We are discussing the need for an "in-house" developer to assist in
designing and implementing an "on line" solution for tracking specific
information, reporting on that information, showing trends, etc. It
would be a web based product, probably SQL backend (although that is
certainly open).

There would be several other small projects as well. I am not sure if
this will be a full time position or a contract position for a couple
years.

What I would like to ask the group is:

1.) What skill set am I looking for?

2.) What is the estimated salary for someone like this?

3.) What do you think is the best way to find someone?

Thanks.
