At least they are pragmatic :-) The ADS stuff they are mentioning must be the old school VSMT (Virtual Server Migration Toolkit). If ever they was a PITA it was VSMT. SCVMM can do P2V to VHD, or otherwise use WAIK per Brian's suggestion. I believe there are some commercial products (Platespin etc) that will also do this for you.
Otherwise, if you have imaging software, why not image, and then just restore the image inside a new VM?
