Depending on how new the system, you may be available for the free upgrade. I just did this with 84 Dell laptops we got last month. They also cut me a deal for SA on 32 I bought within the last 6 months, way cheaper......HTH

Alright, what's the point of SA when they release an OS every 3 years or so? Or is that like asking what's the meaning of life? I know it's an apple 2 orange comparison, but I just upgraded my home machine to 7 for $50. I have a hard time grasping the fact they are going to charge businesses 400% MORE! ________________________________ From: Mike Hoffman [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, September 11, 2009 2:39 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: Win 7 Price Not sure about the dollar rate, but without existing software assurance it can be expensive. The was an offer to add SA to existing machines bought in the last 6 months but that ended last month. In effect you are buying a new full license for the software, so you might want to get a financed option to spread the payments. Does this sound accurate? Seems high to me. ________________________________ From: Brian Desmond [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, September 08, 2009 3:18 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: Win 7 key You just need to install the update for the KMS service and then you can add and activate the Win7 keys. I've actually never been in a position that manages purchasing licenses. It was always handled by different role. Now I am that role, how does the licensing work in a nutshell? I range between 20 and 30 deployed workstations that will be needing Win7. All of them are using WinXP Volume. They all shipped with Vista OEM's as well. (I skipped Vista). And I would like to upconvert any XP/Vista/Win7 OEM licenses that the machines ship with to Volume. I hate activations. What's the best route? It seems that when you purchase any sort of Open license they will now issue KMS keys regardless of how many licenses you purchase. If you don't qualify for a KMS server, you'll need to request MAK keys for your licenses. I've found this needs to be done from the Licensing website, not the eOpen website.
