The problem arises when modules are paired (slot 1 and 3 i.e.). I want to try
not to pair them. But could be a problem of the slots themselves

Sorry if I am coming late on this issue, however my first thought was that
there is a problem one of the two modules, which I know has been suggested.
However on most motherboards and I am not sure about yours if there are more
than two slots the memory has to be installed in the correct slots when paired.
If not there can be subtle to major problems. I have even had one motherboard
that would not recognize that a second chip was in until it was in the correct
slot. I have several computers running Windows 7 Enterprise most with 4GB of
Ram, but a couple with 12GB of Ram and so far the only problem is one shutting
down. It seems to go to an all green screen when told to shut down some of the
time. However that one is 32 Bit, and only has 1.5GB of Ram. It performs most
of the shutdown functions but instead of actually powering off the screen goes
green and the power stays on.

Probably is due to MB not supporting 2+2 GB completely. The machine is OK with
just one module (no matter which one of the 2) in any slot

Can you get another 2GB Module for testing ? To rule out if it is something in
the characteristics of the modules, or the amount of RAM that the
motherboard/OS is not liking...

I don't think they will give support for Windows 7 on that old machine
(2 years). Xp didn0t have the issue

In a DC 7700 Hp with 2 DDR 2 modules (Kingston Value RAM 2GB each )
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits reboots randomly.
Mem check didn't report any error as the OS event viewer that sees the
reboot as unexpected..
The strange thing that if I remove one of the 2 modules (it doesn't
matter which one) the issue disappears.
        Any idea ?

        TIA
