Win2000 AD
I have a site with 1 DC in it (name MJRSWDC001). This DC has
connections defined for 3 other DCs (in a different site) - names
WDC001, WDC002, WDC003. ReplMon shows that it is communicating
properly with all 3 - "last communication successful" on all 3.
Here's the weird part - if I add WDC001 to ReplMon, it shows errors
replicating with the server above. It shows errors replicating from
the server above. Reason: the RPC server is unavailable.
Now, how can that be, I wonder? How can MJRSWDC001 not show an error
communicating *to* WDC001, and yet WDC001 says it has an error
communicating *from* MJRSWDC001? If I click on WDC001, and highlight
MJRSWDC001 and choose "Synchronize with this replication partner", it
tells me the same thing - RPC_SERVER_IS_UNAVAILABLE. If I click on
MJRSWDC001, and highlight WDC001, and choose "Synchronize", it says
"Synchronization queued successfully". When I refresh, it shows "Last
replication attempt was successful", with the correct time.
So what does this mean? Does it mean that MJRSWDC001 has no problem
pushing replication to WDC001, but doesn't like having replication
pulled from it? If so, why? Event log shows nothing - no error
messages, nothing.
Doing a "DCDIAG /V /test:replications" from MJRSWDC001 shows:
Testing server: <remote site>\MJRSWDC001
Starting test: Replications
* Replications Check
......................... MJRSWDC001 passed test Replications
Doing the same from WDC001 shows:
Testing server: <HQ site>\WDC001
Starting test: Replications
* Replications Check
[Replications Check,WDC001] A recent replication attempt failed:
From MJRSDC001 to WDC001
Naming Context: <my-domain>
The replication generated an error (1722):
The RPC server is unavailable.
The failure occurred at 2009-10-08 11:48.53.
The last success occurred at 2009-10-08 08:46.35.
25 failures have occurred since the last success.
[MJRSWDC001] DsBind() failed with error 1722,
The RPC server is unavailable..
The source remains down. Please check the machine.
The MJRSWDC001 isn't down, though. And the RPC service is running on
MJRSWDC001. And WDC001 has no problems with DCs in 3 other sites ...
Any thoughts? Insights?
Thanks
