South Korea is supposed to be like 1st or 2nd in global Internet
connectivity. I've read that kind of connectivity is not uncommon in
the major metro areas.

The USA is around 12th, I believe. We gave huge tax breaks to the
telcos to build a next-generation infrastructure. They pocked the
money. They either did nothing with it, or built infrastructure but
then claimed it was privately owned.

The NH PUC let Verizon (formerly Bell Atlantic, formerly NYNEX,
formerly New England Telephone, formerly AT&T) let the PSTN in this
state decay into decrepit condition, then let VZ off the hook for
fixing it, and then let VZ *sell* the mess to FairPoint for 4 billion
dollars. FairPoint is now going bankrupt trying to make the payments
to VZ while also trying to clean up the mess VZ left behind.

  Go USA! :-(
