It's not recommended to put the MSI on your DC, as this will be taking
resources away from DC functions, which may slow down logons etc.
It's recommended to use DFS, especially if your sites and subnets are all in
place, because the client computers will pick up the local copy of the MSI
for installation.

Make sure that the machine accounts have appropriate permissions to the
share where you place the MSI file. I think this is covered in the Technet
link I sent.
